Does he know
when you offer him whole
the fruit with the pip
not to take down the stone
not to choke on it?
Does he know
that it shall not lie
but clog up his throat
poison his blood and
darken his eyes?
Does he know
that it’s too late
when it spills in a flood
that it shan’t wait
to steal his own clothes?
Does he know
that it shall grow,
put leaves through his ears
roots down below
just to show where he died?
Does he know
not to swallow it?
